When Yellowstone, Yosemite, and Grand Canyon National Parks were established, the United States of America became the first country in history to put aside public lands solely for the enjoyment and education of its people, and not for economic purposes. This magnificent idea has been challenged by many interests since the National Park System was established in 1916, but our three most famous Parks have kept the idea alive and well. This idea also led to the Conservation. Movement, another American first that has inspired parks and Ecological-Environmental thinking worldwide.
